How Save-A-Pet Works:  Cats and dogs in our care are temporarily sheltered in foster homes offered by Save-A-Pet volunteers. Thanks to the generosity of contributors, our organization can provide foster homes with pet food, supplies, crates and veterinarian costs.  Every animal is readied for adoption with достопримечательности Ижевска a health check, basic innoculations, tests for life-threatening diseases, and spaying or neutering  of all cats and dogs who are old enough.  The foster families give the animals care and affection, socialization, and training that makes the pets more adoptable.

The animals remain safely in foster care until permanent adoptive homes are found through inquiries following our advertising, through our Pick-A-Pet Shows, or through the PetConnect television program.

Our Adoption Sites: For many years Save-A-Pet's volunteers have held "Pick A Pet" shows to which foster homes bring the pets in their care so that prospective owners can meet a variety of available pets.  Currently we hold Pick A Pet shows on the third Saturday of each month at Lockport United Church of Christ, 98 East Ave., Lockport. Please check our "Critter Corner" column in the Lockport Journal or our quarterly newsletter for specific dates and times of shows.

We Like People Too.  Besides helping animals, Save-A-Pet serves people in the community.  At the request of school groups or day-care centers, Save-A-Pet volunteers do "pet talks" for children.  We also have a tradition of our volunteers visiting nursing homes or senior residences with Save-A-Pet puppies, however, in recent times, we are seeking more volunteers to revive this worthy program.  We join the local SPCA, animal welfare groups, and Spay/Neutering Coalitions in educating the public on the importance of neutering pets so that the population of unwanted animals will diminish.  In addition, we stress responsible pet ownership that provides training, exercise, veterinary attention, and affection that every pet needs.  We urge voters to inform their local officeholders on the importance of providing animal control services for all cats and dogs in the community.  Our greatest service is giving people the opportunity to take home a companion pet that will bring years of happiness.

How Save-A-Pet is Funded.

- We rely on the donations of animal lovers for funds to cover our expenses.  All monetary donations are tax-deductible.  All of our volunteers are unpaid and we maintain no buildings or vehicles that add to our expenses.
-  Dads Dog Food Proofs of Purchase and Purina dry dog food weight circles are also highly refundable, as are Dad's and Friskies cat food upc's.  We also can use S & H Green Stamps.  These items can be sent to our Post Office Box or deposited in donation cans in some of the markets.
-Sales of our handmade genuine catnip pillows, our logo merchandise, candy bars, raffles, and membership fees also help our work.  Two annual fund-raising letters give supporters a chance to review our work and respond.
-Area veterinarians lower our expenses through generous discounts on their services to the pets we aid.

HOW YOU CAN HELP

Become a SAP member (or renew your membership) by printing and filling the form below.  You'll be on our mailing list so we can keep in touch through our newsletter.  Click here for membership form.

#1 Wish for Save-a-Pet:  More Foster Homes.  It takes a lot of pieces to make Save-a-Pet work, but perhaps the most vital piece is the foster homes - loving volunteers willing to care for one or more cats or dogs in their home until a permanent home can be found for them.  Unfortunately, Save-a-Pet must turn down animals every day because we don't have enough foster homes.  Please write to our Post Office Box and include your phone number so we may contact you about becoming a Save-a-Pet foster home.

Become an active volunteer:

-Be a foster home for strays or animals awaiting adoption.
-Be a nursing home or senior residence visitor with a SAP puppy
-Help with animals at our Pick A Pet shows
-Help with our fund raising activities
-Offer to help with odd jobs as needed.  This might include labeling newsletters, picking up pet supplies, or transportation for vet visits.
-Donate pet food, litter, or supplies such as collars, leashes, crates, shampoo, etc.
-Save supermarket register tapes from Shurfine Markets, S&H Green Stamps, Purina and Dads weight circles, and Homeless Homer and Morris the Cat symbols from Gaines pet foods.
-MONETARY DONATIONS ARE ALWAYS WELCOME AND ARE TAX-DEDUCTIBLE.
